Information for tango DJs

The ONE TANGO Salon is not only a place for dancing, but also for meeting, unwinding and joy. Part of that atmosphere is our high standard for sound quality — and for our TDJs.

Which tango DJs we invite depends on the format of the evening (traditional, mixed, nuevo); it is a blend of experienced local and international TDJs.

We also deliberately host milonga formats aimed not only at tango beginners and returners, but also at the next generation of TDJs. We support them above all with gear, sound quality and good sources for audio files, and with shaping a milonga musically.

The standard for sound quality is the same for everyone.

1. High-quality audio formats

We recommend high-quality transfers of the original recordings. Best suited are:

• Uncompressed: WAV, AIFF
• Losslessly compressed: FLAC, ALAC
• Please avoid: MP3, AAC, OGG

We know these formats cannot always be avoided in a library that has grown over the years. The difference in quality will, however, be clearly audible.

2. Reliable audio software and hardware

For a stable, trouble-free listening experience we expect professional audio tools — a proper DJ player, a cleanly configured music database and suitable audio utilities.

Our DAC: Focusrite Scarlett 2i2, 4th generation

On an Apple device it is plug and play via USB-C (a USB-A coupler is available). All you need to do is select the device in your music player.

On Windows you have two options:

1. With driver. Download the driver · Installation guide
2. Without driver. Using a jack-to-jack cable (6.3 mm / 3.5 mm) and a USB-C adapter, connect your laptop to the audio input on the front panel. Set the switch on the channel you use to "Line" — the "Inst." button must not be lit — and select the DAC in your music player.

Setting the level

• Set the output dial on the DAC to 0.
• Set the volume in your music player to about 80–90 %.
• Start a track and turn the output dial up until the ring glows green on loud passages. If you are on Windows via the front jack input, use the gain dial of that channel instead.
• If the ring flashes red, the sound distorts. Turn the dial back a little.

Two things that matter

The mixing desk has no function. It is not part of this audio chain and is only used for live music.

Please do not change anything on the amplifier. It is switched on at the front; the orange light at the top left must be lit. At the back, the right-hand toggle belongs down on "XLR" — switch it to "RCA" only when the mini-jack cable (3.5 mm, headphone output, for a tablet or phone) is used. Apart from that, please leave the amplifier untouched.
